A nice way to soften the effects of an on camera flash is to add diffusion to it. Here is a handy little one made out of a slide box that fits on a Nikon D70.

From the site:

“there is absolutely no airbrushing or digital manipulation in the photos on this page. The magic of these photos is the meticulously planned image alignment. I shot these using film, locking the camera to a tripod and then taking two photos one after the other. It’s old-school photo montage, nothing more.”

I could use one of these, you can mount it on a cars'in one configuration and in another shoot directly down in another. Packs away in a small space too.

This is a series of photos taken with a sound sensor connected to a flash. The subject (the rose) was frozen in liquid nitrogen and then shot with a rifle. The rifles report triggered the strobes that were attached to the flashes. All were taken with a D100 f-4 - 5.6 1.3uS exposure.

Very cool.

The photo at right is a Velvia Digital :
For those who like Fuji's Velvia Color and contrast : (How To)
1 Open image
2. Channel mixer
3. channel red 144, -22,-22
4. channel green 144,-22,-22
5. channel blue 144, -22,-22
6 ok
7. curves (s-shape as you like)
8. ok
9. Voi là!!!
P.S you can decrease the effect by decreasing the layer opacity, if you use channel mixer as an adjustment layer

He also has a nice tip on how to to convert an image to black and white too.

Photo.Net

Lots of resources for folks that like photography.

Very clever project. He built himself a pinhole camera out of LEGO bricks. It uses 120 roll film and sports a film counter! I might use that in my next pinhole camera myself...

This is a compact wide angle (16:9) digital camera. Not as wide as say a swing lens Horizon 202 but it will give you images with a nice aspect ratio.

This is a handy device, I;m wondering why I haven't seen this in other blogs...
You attach a little doover to the viewfinder to your camera that lets you see your viewfinders display on a moveable LCD. This would be real handy for those times where you want to shoot over your head or real low.

The Tortuga (turtle in Spanish) is a five hole pinhole camera that will make either a 240 degree panoramic at once or sequentialy. the example above is what you get if you trigger each shutter while you have it pointed at different objects. Photo merging can have some pretty dramatic results. Someday I will build one of these, or buy one if I can afford it.

This is the (pretty much) original image from my seven day long exposure of my photogram (blueprint) paper test. The image would have been sharper but being open like that for so long there was a serious issue with halation (light bouncing off the emulsion and reflecting back off the camera on to the paper again).

Ah... I need to build one of these myself. I have a 35mm format panoramic pinhole camera that i built but i won't truely think I have done a good job until I build one that takes 120 roll film.

Almost always it will slide a bit and then your back to moving it around again.
Should have some suction cups on it just for good measure but then again the idea isn't exactly new. I seem to remember seeing something like this a few years ago in a Porters catalog.
